Let’s get started!

Colour trends

Let’s start with the colours of the moment. Winter doesn’t need to be dark and miserable, you can bring new life to your home with on-trend home accessories that will look great in any space. Rich burgundy, olive greens and sleek greys are still the big colour trends for AW16, these deep tones can instantly bring a room together and you don’t even need to pick up a paint brush! One of the easiest ways to inject new colours into a room is by changing a focal piece, one of our favourite ‘quick transformation tips’ is to focus on the curtains and blinds in a room. As the window is often the main feature of a room, a new blind or curtain can make your space seem brand new. Pick up a few matching accessories such as cosy cushions and throws in the same shade to bring the whole room together.

Snug as a bug!

The bedroom is one of the most important places to ensure you feel warm and cosy this winter! Yes, you may have just mastered the art of staying cool over the summer months, but now you need to make sure that you stay warm and enjoy spending time in your own seasonal haven. With our small tweaks you can create the perfect winter-ready bedroom, without the huge heating bill!

Layers are key to staying warm during the winter and this doesn’t just mean your clothes. Your bed needs to retain as much heat as possible, so it’s important to make sure that your bedding does the job. A cosy quilted mattress protector is the perfect first layer, the texture will trap air – keeping your bed warm and ready for the end of a long day!

Next comes the fun part, piling on luxurious fitted sheets and the all important winter duvet. We recommend between a 13.5 & 15 tog for the ideal toasty nights sleep, for added luxury try a duck feather & down duvet – you will definitely be hitting the snooze button for some extra minutes in bed!

For the perfect finishing touches, TJ Hughes has you covered. Our bed linen collection has everything you need to create a truly opulent, winter-ready bedroom. Here are just a few of our favourites to give you a dash of inspiration for creating your own luxurious boudoir.

3. Hot water bottles are great for ensuring your bed is toasty warm before you get in, however for the ultimate treat why not invest in an electric blanket? Not only are they energy efficient, they can also warm up your bed in the time it takes for you to brush your teeth.

4. Once you’ve picked out your new curtains from TJ Hughes, you need to make the most of them! Did you know that adding thermal lining to your curtains can reduce heat loss by almost 25%?
