Lighting Buying Guide

Choosing the right lighting for your home is more important than you think.  The right lighting can transform the look and feel of a room, just by introducing different types of lights, bulbs and styles.  Making a statement by illuminating your space needn’t be difficult.  You want lighting that works for you, and with a wide range of modern and traditional styles both in-store and online, we can help.

Types of Lighting

Ceiling Lights

Almost every room has a ceiling light.  It provides the main source of light and are mostly displayed in the center of the room, lighting the entire space.  They can form part of a wider lighting scheme, and in conjunction with the right table and floor lamps, can change the mood of a room quite literally, at a switch.  They look great hanging alone, but can also be hung together over a dining area or breakfast bar, to give maximum visual impact.  We have a great range of both pendant and lantern style ceiling lights both in-store and online.

Floor Lamps

When creating the perfect lighting for your home, Floor lamps provide a standalone source of light, or can work together with ceiling and table lamps to create the perfect mood and illuminate your room.  Usually standing head height, they can cast their light downwards, although more modern style can illuminate upwards.  Take a look at what we have to offer.

Table Lamps

For creating a welcoming environment, it's a good idea to have a selection of different lighting options in your home. For the ultimate in portable illumination, table lamps are great for shedding light on concentrated areas and for seeing what you're doing for specific tasks, without turning on the main light. Here at T J Hughes we’ve a stylish selection of table lamps to choose from, including a variety of styles and sizes to suit your needs.

Garden and Decorative and Festive Lighting

At T J Hughes we have a varied selection of lighting options for both inside and outside of the home. Sometimes you need a little light outside too, for either practical or security reasons. Garden lights are a great way of lighting up your outside space in the summer so that you can make the most of your garden and enjoy it even when the sun has gone down.  They can provide a soft warm light that’s not too stark, and are perfect for creating an atmosphere outside.  Our solar lights are very long lasting and durable, with garden lantern options or solar lights placed in the ground.  Our fairy lights for outdoor are LED battery powered, so no need to plug them in, and can also be used inside for festive decoration. And we’ve also got some festive laser lights with various Christmas themes, to really make the most of the Yuletide season.
