Liverpool Store Relocation

TJ Hughes

TJ Hughes first emerged in the city of Liverpool in 1912, when Thomas John Hughes opened a small shop on London Road 111 years ago, which grew to be one of Liverpool’s Biggest Department Stores with over 400 staff.

Hughes' original small shop on London Road was located a few doors down from its current location at Audley House; which it moved to in the early 1920’s and where it would remain for the next 100 years.

The TJ Hughes Store would find great success on London Road under Thomas Hughes, which would be a testament to the founder, were he would be credited for business acumen, personality and resourcefulness.

After Thomas John Hughes passed away in 1933, the TJ Hughes' name continued to grow and the department store became known as one of the best and most loved discount stores in the city.

As we approach the autumn of 2023, TJ Hughes is moving its flagship Liverpool store from their historic site in London Road, into a thriving city centre location on Church Street. The move will help retain the companies name as one of Liverpool’s original discount retailers, while continuing to serve their loyal customers along with welcoming new customers to the flagship city centre store for years to come.
