Nothing quite says ‘summer’ like a freshly cooked burger, straight from the BBQ. But, burgers and hotdogs can get a little old quite quickly, especially if we’re enjoying an extended warm spell. Luckily there’s a whole host of incredible food that you can cook on an outdoor grill that the whole family will love. So, make the most of this Great British summertime by cooking up some of our favourite BBQ delicacies.

Garlic Grilled Clams

Seafood, especially shellfish, is a true BBQ delight – and so easy to cook. Simply place the clams in a bucket of cold water, with some cornmeal to extract any sand, let the shells dry, coat with some garlic butter and place on a hot BBQ for two to three minutes. You will know that they’re ready when the shells pop open!

Citrus Chicken Kebabs

Give your chicken kebabs a summer twist with a squeeze of lemon juice and black pepper. Add some asparagus, onions and lemon slices to the skewer and grill for 15-20minutes – the sourness of the lemons will soften during grilling, helping to add the perfect amount of citrus flavour to the chicken.

Barbecued Avocados

Not only are avocados great for your skin and hair, they’re also a delicacy when cooked on the BBQ. Keeping the skin on, simply cut the fruit in half and coat with olive oil, salt and pepper. Place them face-down and grill for five to seven minutes. Once fully cooked, add some chopped tomatoes, chives and goats cheese for a taste of summer.

Grilled Watermelon Feta Salad

Grilled watermelon is so easy to make and makes a deliciously refreshing snack for both you and the kids. Or, for a really tropical twist on a summer favourite, add some pepper, rocket and crumbled feta for a hearty watermelon feta salad that is bound to have your guests coming back for more.

Grilled Chipotle Lime Sweet Potato Fries

For a healthy version of the classic potato wedges, why not choose grilled sweet potatoes? Not only are they lower in sodium, fat and calories than regular fries, but they’re delicious too. Simply make a marinade of olive oil, lime juice, chipotle in adobo sauce and salt & pepper, and brush over the wedges until covered – then grill for 6 minutes and voila; delicious wedges that are a simple and healthy snack!
