Festival season is upon us, which means it’s time to dig out the sleeping bags and dust off the tent. Whether you’ve got a weekend ticket for the whole family, or planning a getaway with your mates, getting ready for a festival requires a bit of pre-planning. Not sure where to start? We’ve broken it down into four easy steps to get you festival ready. TJ Hughes have everything you’re going to need if you’re heading to the fields this summer.

Step 1. Prepare for all weather

The first step for a fun festival is to prepare for all weather. The Great British summer can be unpredictable, so don’t get caught out without sun protection. Nivea waterproof SPF 50 is ideal for the kids. Alternatively, Calypso SPF 40 is suitable for you and the children, and only needs to be applied once a day. Good leather trainers are going to be the most comfortable, but some lightweight wellies are an essential for dancing in muddy fields. Finally, always have an emergency PVC Poncho on you. It may be summer, but it is the UK. Need we say more?

Step 2. Camping must-haves

four person tent

A lightweight but sturdy tent is a festival essential. This bright orange 4 man dome tent is sure to stand out in the field of black and khaki tents! This one has a sewn-in groundsheet already, so you don’t need to bother bringing one. It’s a good idea to take a foil covered camping mat to sleep on for extra insulation, or you could bring an airbed like this single or this double airbed if you’re in need of a comfortable night’s sleep. All you need now is a cosy sleeping bag and you’re all set.

Camping chairs are an essential for all festivals, and ours are comfortable, super sturdy and lightweight. They come in three different colours, so there’s no need to fight over whose chair belongs to who, and they have a mesh cup holder.

camping table that doubles up as a stool is ideal for camp breakfasts, and a wind-up LED lantern is a must-have for hanging in your tent when the sun goes down.

Step 3. Bring the party

Wherever you go, take the party with you with this Tailgate Wireless Bluetooth LED Speaker. Simply charge up the batteries before you leave home, connect it to your phone via Bluetooth and use it wirelessly anywhere. The addition of wheels means it’s even easier to transport at festivals.

If you’ve got the space and some willing participants, why not take along this Inflatable Limbo Set for a laugh? It’s bound to be a hit with kids and grown-ups!

Step 4. Keep the troops well-fed

A good camp breakfast is so important for restoring energy levels and getting back in the festival spirit. Camp breakfast essentials include a camping stove (don’t forget the gas canisters), a good non-stick frying pan for rustling up sausages and beans, a stainless steel kettle and enamel mugs for that much-needed morning coffee.

Bonus tip: Festival showers can often be a no-go zone, so taking along some Batiste Dry Shampoo is a great idea. Get that just-washed feeling with a quick spritz at the roots and a brush through.
