Trick or Treats: Simple Halloween Baking Recipes

In light of National Baking Week 2019, we’re going to share with you our favourite Halloween recipes to give you a little more treat over trick during this spooky season.  Take this national holiday to get into the spirit of Halloween and spend some quality time with your little ones, baking some tasty cakes to enjoy together.

Your children will love making these spook-tacular cakes and bakes and you are sure to enjoy eating them, offering the perfect way to spend your Halloween evening this year. All of these recipes are cheap, easy to make and incredibly tasty!

Ghostly Cake Pops

These ghostly cake pops are easily made and make for the perfect Halloween treat, filled with a soft vanilla spoke and covered in sweet butter icing – you will have plenty of fun decorating the scary faces!

You Will Need:

  • 100g Butter
  • 100g Caster Sugar
  • ½ tbsp. Vanilla Extract
  • 2 Eggs
  • 100g Self-Rising Flour
  • Lollipop Sticks
  • 200g White Chocolate
  • 1 Tube of Black Frosting

Instructions:

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 180/gas 4.
  2. Mix the butter and sugar together until fluffy, adding the vanilla extract in small drops.
  3. Slowly stir the eggs into the mixture.
  4. Sprinkle the flower contents into the bowl whilst stirring.
  5. Pour the mixture into a sizeable cake tin to bake for 35-45 minutes.
  6. Once baked, crumble the cake into small crumbs and gather into a bowl.
  7. Take one tablespoon of the cake and mould into small balls with your hand, repeating multiple times to form each cake pop.
  8. Refrigerate the cake pop balls for 15-25 minutes whilst preparing the butter icing.
  9. Melt the white chocolate into a ball, ready for dipping.
  10. Stick a lollipop stick into each cake ball, dipping them into the white chocolate until completely covered.
  11. Place the cake pops into the fridge for 20 minutes, or until the chocolate has completely hardened.
  12. Now for the best part – use the tube of black frosting to add the scary face to each cake pop.
  13. Enjoy!

Creepy Cookies

These pumpkin sugar cookies are a treat for the taste buds, and are lots of fun to decorate – why not get creative and design your own creepy cookies? Simply swap out the icing colours and shape to make your own monsters.

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp. Vanilla Extract
  • ½ tsp. Almond Extract
  • 400g Flour
  • 230g Butter
  • 130g Sugar
  • 1 Egg
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • 2 tsp Baking Powder
  • Shaped Cookie Cutters
  • Coloured Decorative Icing

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 180/gas 4.
  2. Mix the butter and sugar together until a smooth texture is formed.
  3. Drop the vanilla and almond extracts into the mixture to add flavour.
  4. Beat in the egg until fully mixed in with no lumps.
  5. In a different bowl, add baking powder, salt and flour and mix together.
  6. Slowly sprinkle in the powdered mixture with the dough to soften it.
  7. Roll out the dough and cut into shapes – use shapers for the best results.
  8. Bake the cookies for 6-8 minutes and transfer to a cooling rack.
  9. Once cool, get creative and decorative your cookies with the coloured icing!

Monster Muffins

These monster muffins are plenty of fun to create and even more delicious to eat. Grab plenty of food colouring and sprinkles to get creative with your decoration to create a whole army of monsters!

Ingredients

  • 110g Butter/Margarine (for the cake)
  • 11g Caster Sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 110 Self-Rising Flour
  • 1 tbsp. Milk
  • 140g Butter (for the icing)
  • 280g Icing Sugar
  • Food Colouring
  • Scary Eyeball Sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 180/gas 4.
  2. Mix the butter and sugar together until pale in colour.
  3. Slowly beat in each egg and sprinkle in the vanilla extract for added flavour.
  4. Stir in the flour contents and milk, mixing until smooth in texture.
  5. Bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  6. Convert to a cooling rack and allow 10 minutes for the cakes to cool.
  7. Prepare the icing by mixing the butter and icing sugar together, until smooth.
  8. Add any chosen food colouring into the icing to change the colour – separate the icing into various bowls for preparing multiple colours.
  9. Pipe the icing onto each cake in a swirling motion.
  10. Decorating time – add the eyeball sprinkles and other decorative features to each cake before enjoying this yummy treat.
